Archives For hard drive

A little over a year ago, I posted one persons Star Trek creation where they created the USS Enterprise out of office supplies like a couple of pens and a CD.  Well, as cool as that was, I prefer it when the Enterprise has a little more storage space than just 700MB and apparently I must not be the only one to think that.

Star Trek fan and geeky crafter Daniel Shankalonian decided to take an old hard drive and make the Enterprise out of it!  Actually, this Enterprise includes not only parts from a dead hard drive but bits of a dead motherboard and a keyboard too.  He was selling it on Etsy but it sold yesterday so if you were hoping to get your hands on this, it looks like you will have to settle for building your own.

Props to Daniel on this excellent and geeky creation!

Until I saw the pair of floppy drives that were used to play the Imperial March, I never imagined that people would use computer drives to play music.  Well, somebody has done this neat little trick with a hard drive.  I was browsing YouTube yesterday when I came across this awesome video showing somebody who hacked together a computer, an Arduino board, a hard drive and a few other things to make the hard drive play the Imperial March.  I think I am still partial to Epica’s live version of the Imperial March but this is still awesome and super geeky.

In the past, I have been very critical of the idiots at Best Buy’s Geek Squad and their outrageous prices but I think its safe to say I have finally found somebody worse than them.  The picture below posted on failblog has the whole story but apparently an extremely gullible computer owner was convinced that somebody was trying to infiltrate his hard drive and paid $6 million to protect himself.  Its a pretty funny story so I recommend checking out the picture below.  I think its safe to say this guy shouldn’t be allowed to use a computer anymore.
