Archives For Facebook

Facebook isn’t just for normal people, Facebook is for zombies too!  The Facebook Like button has become fairly iconic thanks to the social networks popularity over the past couple of years.  Well, apparently one zombie loving Facebook user decided the Like button wasn’t gross enough so they decided to sever a hand and paint the rest of the like button in blood.  To each their own I suppose but I think I will prefer the LEGO Like Button for a while yet.

I admit that I am a bit of a klutz under the best of circumstances, so trying to do something like updating my Facebook status while walking is an almost lethal combination.  Sadly, I have a feeling there are a lot of people like me because apparently accidents caused by walking while typing on your phone is such a big problem in some city that they had to put up these signs telling people to not update their Facebook status while walking.  Unfortunately, there is a problem with this sign idea.  If somebody is busy on their phone as they are walking down the street, they aren’t going to notice the sign.  Therefor, I officially declare this idea a waste of money.

Pass this along to anybody you know that is always on their phone.  Like us on Facebook too!

Like I have said a number of times in the past, I hate dressing up.  Any shirt with anything longer than short sleeves is too dressy for my taste.  Well, on the very rare occasion that I have to dress up, something like these Facebook Like and Dislike Cufflinks would be great to have!  You can get these awesome Facebook Like/Dislike cufflinks at Cufflinks.com for $50.  Maybe it is just me but that seems like a lot of money for some silly cufflinks but having never purchased a pair before, I don’t really know how much a pair of cufflinks runs.

These days, it seems like you can find a Facebook like button on just about every page of the internet and now you can take the whole ‘Like’ thing into meatspace!  For $12.99 at ThinkGeek, you can get these awesome Facebook like and dislike self-inking stamps!  I would love to see these stamps start to show up all over the place.  I look forward to seeing teachers grade or at least give feedback on papers with these stamps because that would be awesome.  If you do happen to see any of these stamps in the wild, snap a picture of it and tell us about it in the comments!  Also, tell us if you would buy something like this!

Make sure to Like us on Facebook as well with the box on the right!  Lucky for us, Facebook still doesn’t have a dislike button :)

Geeks come up with some pretty amazing creations and this one is no exception.  Somebody created the Facebook like image out of LEGOs and while that in itself is pretty cool, it flashes whenever somebody likes a page that you tell it to monitor.  I’m not really sure how useful that really is but it is still pretty cool.  Below is a picture of the creation as well as a video showing it being designed and constructed.  The video is pretty cool.

Make sure to pass this along to all of your LEGO and Facebook loving friends and like us on Facebook with the box on the right!

As a general rule, I start looking for new social networks to join as soon as my immediate family starts to join the one that I am currently using.  I don’t care for the idea of my family keeping tabs on me with the social networks that I use.  It seems that I am not the only one who feels that way judging by the picture below of a text conversation between a dad and his son about Facebook.  Luckily, the son is a quick thinker when he has to explain his reaction.  Do you have the same reaction when your parents join the sites that you are on?  Please tell me in the comments that I am not the only one who freaks out when this happens!

The awesome guys over at College Humor have posted this hilarious flowchart for helping to decide how to comment on a person’s Facebook status.  If you have ever had a time when you can’t decide just what kind of comment you should leave on the status of one of your Facebook friends, maybe this flowchart can give you some guidance.

The Czech company Candytech has released a ton of Facebook statistics through its SocialBakers site with this impressive infographic.  The Facebook 2010 infographic is below but here are a couple of highlights that I found most interesting.  Thanks to TechCrunch for the heads up!

  • Nearly 8 people signed up for Facebook every second in 2010.
  • Indonesia is the second biggest country on Facebook with 32.1 million users
  • Oreo is the 3rd biggest brand on Facebook
  • Bob Marley has more fans on Facebook than Barack Obama.

Back in November, we posted about the dangers of a new Firefox extension that is available for download called Firesheep and how to protect yourself from it using an extension called HTTPS Everywhere.  To address this threat created that Firesheep exploited, Facebook now has a new security setting that will make you use HTTPS by default so you don’t have to worry about some Firesheep user hijacking your account.  I highly recommend enabling this feature which you can find out how to do in the video below.  The video on how to enable this new feature is thanks to the crew over at Lifehacker.

Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?

Image via Wikipedia

Until now, I have never been remotely interested in any Facebook game.  I don’t care about virtual farming or mob battles or any other kind of game on Facebook.  While I’m still not interested in those things, with this news, I might be interested in giving Facebook a shot as a gaming platform.

Joystick is reporting that according to this blog post by Darius Kazemi, Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? are coming to Facebook in early February.  Oregon Trail is supposed to come out on February 2nd and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? will launch on February 9th.  The Learning Company (I didn’t even realize they were still around) is publishing both games which are being developed by Blue Fang Games.  The trailers for both games are below.  Its also worth noting that the Oregon Trail game turns 40 this year.

I don’t even want to speculate how much of my childhood was spent playing these games and I haven’t played either in years so to say that I am excited about this would be an understatement.
