Today, Microsoft announced at its Worldwide Partner Conference 2010 that the beta for Service Pack 1 of Windows 7 is now up for public download.

Rumors had been flying around that the beta would be released sometime in July.  Last week, the Windows 7 SP1 beta had reportedly hit bittorrent but security conscious people like myself were afraid of downloading something like that from bittorrent before it was released.  Well, the wait is now over as you can download it now.

Keep in mind that this is still a beta so if you install it and something bad happens to your machine, you can’t blame anybody but yourself.  Personally, I recommend installing stuff like this on a non-important machine or on a VM so that you don’t risk killing your main computer.  Download it at your own risk!

If you give it a shot, let us know in the comments what you think of it and if it has changed your system performance at all.
